As duck shooting weekend approaches hunters around the country set up their mai mais in preparation, but one Scotsman has gone a few extra miles.
Maniototo man Gavan Brenssell has flown more than 1900 kilometres from Scotland to be home for duck shooting season, something he has done for the past eight years.
Since 2003 Brensell has returned from the Highlands for some duck shooting.
The journey could possibly make him the keenest duckshooter in New Zealand.
"If you put Carmen, my wife and Emily in context, Emily probably comes in at number two, and Carmen probably comes in at number three at this time of the year," said Brenssell.
But his wife Carmen isn't totally opposed to the idea of coming second to the duck.
"I'm quite used to it I suppose, I guess I'm pretty similar to him, born and bred with duck shooting things as well. I made the decision pretty early on if you can't beat them you've got to join them.
And it is probably a wise decision as Brenssell says it is a passion he will take to the grave.
"I sort of promised myself when I first started shooting, that as long as I could stand up and pull a trigger I'd be doing it till the day I died," he said.
