There are renewed calls for motorists to be more aware of cyclists.
This follows the weekend smash on Auckland's Tamaki Drive when a car ploughed into a group of cyclists , injuring four of them about 8am Saturday.
One of the injured cyclists remains in a critical condition in Auckland Hospital.
He has been named as Auckland civil engineer Greg Paterson and
is reported to be in a
critical but stable condition.
Cycle Action says lowering the speed in areas like Tamaki Drive could improve cyclists' safety.
But Auckland's mayor John Banks is dismissing calls to lower the speed limit along the waterfront.
He says if people applied their common sense no one would be running to the council asking for silly things which don't address the issue.
Banks says a lower speed limit will not stop people from running stop signs and ploughing into cyclists.
