A truck driver has appeared in court charged with running down and killing one of New Zealand's top police officers.
Superintendent Steve Fitzgerald, who headed the road policing unit for five years died at a Wellington roundabout last June.
Police say fitzgerald was cycling home when he was hit by a truck driven by Desmond Wilson who has now been charged with careless driving causing death.
The case is expected to take four days.
