The driver of a car involved in a collision with a group of cyclists in which three people died near Morrinsville has been charged with careless driving causing death.
The crash happened on the Walton-Morrinsville Rd the morning of Sunday November 14.
Waikato District Road Policing Manager, Inspector Leo Tooman, said a 23-year-old Matamata woman has been charged with three counts of careless driving causing death.
She will be appearing in the Morrinsville District Court on December 15.
A group of 10 cyclists were riding with the Morrinsville Wheelers Cycling Club when the accident happened.
Cyclists Mark Andrew Ferguson, 46, and Wilhelm Muller, 71, died at the scene and Kay Heather Wolfe, 45, died later in Waikato Hospital.
Tooman said the tragedy had affected four families and he hoped would serve as a reminder of just how quickly situations on the road can change.
"No one wants to see a repeat of what happened. The important thing to remember is the importance of all drivers to maintain their situational awareness and be aware of the conditions at all times," he said.
