Recognising domestic violence - violence happens in many ways.

Emotional: Telling you that you're crazy, using mind games
Threats: Using raised voices and intimidating looks to scare you
Isolation: Keeping you away from family, friends and support
Physical: Slaps, punches, bites, kicks, hair pulling, using weapons
Sexual: Making you have sex when you don't want to

Abusive partners often have a pattern of behaviour which gets worse over time if nothing is done to stop them. It's important to realise life doesn't have to be like this.

Shine*
A national organisation offering a free helpline, training and consultancy - is the largest single family violence prevention service in New Zealand.

Women's Refuge
