The police dive squad will today join the search for a student missing from Auckland University's marine laboratory at Leigh.

Yue Gui, also known as "Alice", was last seen at 11pm on Saturday at the facility north of Auckland.

The 30-year-old's normal routine is to check the water temperature at the Goat Island Marine Reserve every Sunday morning.

Police said weather and tidal conditions during the time she went missing were adverse and they have grave fears she may have fallen into the water.

A search using the police helicopter and staff failed to find her yesterday and police are seeking information from anyone who may have seen Alice in the area.

Alice is a Chinese female aged 30 years. She is 5ft 1, slim build with dark hair.
