The recession and swine flu are being blamed for a dip in our tourism spend.
International visitors from the UK, US and Japan spent just over 2% in the year to March compared to the previous 12 months.
That saw about $136 million shaved from our $6 billion tourism industry.
The Tourism Ministry believes tough economic times and health fears were key factors.
But spokesman Bruce Bassett says it wasn't all bad news, as the Australian market preformed well.
He says spending was up almost ten percent, which saw an extra $1.8 billion pumped into our economy.
