A classic piece of Kiwiana is at the heart of a new fundraising campaign which aims to help underprivileged children.

And organisers believe the jandals-with-a-twist will be a sure footed winner.

The jandals will be sold as a fundraiser for Kidscan - a charitable trust that already supports over 100 low decile schools throughout the country by providing shoes, food and raincoats.

And in South Auckland on Sunday principal Felicity Brown got a lesson from her pupils on the very latest in designer jandals.

Randwick Park pupils were keen to pick favourites from designs supplied by seven top local designers including Zambesi, Kingan Jones and Caroline Church.

"I think all New Zealanders can buy these jandals, we have priced them at $12.99 so they are affordable and I think they would make fantastic Christmas presents," says Kidscan general manager .

There are plenty of children in the community who urgently need support.

"Some kids come to school maybe a bit grumpy so you just know to feed them and if you feed them they calm down and can get on with their learning...which is what we're all about," says Brown.

The designer jandals go on sale at Number One Shoes stores from Monday, with $5 from every sale going to Kidscan.
