The defence has opened its case at the trial of the man accused of murdering Nicholas Pike whose body has never been found.

The Crown says Stephen Hudson killed his friend and drug associate on the Desert Road seven years ago.

But the defence says Hudson was not involved in Pike's disappearance and that he was actually in Masterton with family at the time.

His sister took the stand on Friday, denying Crown claims she was making up the alibi.
