ONE News reporter Jack Tame is in Antarctica for the official opening of three purpose built wind turbines.

And on day three of his adventure, he came across a leopard seal...

"Today I met Blubber,
Down in front of old Scott Base.
I tiptoed up to him through the snow,
And he stared me in the face.

He'd climbed up from some swimming hole
And lumbered across the snow.
He lounged round in the sunshine,
With nowhere warmer for him to go.

The sea ice melts around him
With each Antarctic dawn
But Blubber just sunbathes,
Farts, eats, sleeps and sometimes yawns.

Both of us try to stay warm,
I wear layers of wool and rubber.
Blubber is just as chunky as me
But Blubber's blubber is blubber.

And though he won't recall the day
I caught him in my lens
I don't care what anyone says
Blubber and I are friends."

Jack will be blogging regularly for tvnz.co.nz about his experience in Antarctica as well as filing stories for the ONE News 6pm bulletin.
