Dame Kiri Te Kanawa has become the victim of a US fraudster.
More than $1 million has been taken from a retirement account she has in the United States.
Police in the Californian town of Alameda have arrested local bank manager Cindy Sou.
A local newspaper reports she is now facing numerous embezzlement charges.
Suspicions were raised when one of Dame Kiri's financial advisers noticed five unauthorised withdrawals from her account, including one for $350,000.
Police say Sou has confessed saying she was facing financial problems.
Dame Kiri is in New York as part of a 28 concert world tour.
