Wellington Zoo is auctioning the naming rights for its latest arrival - a seven week old female Dingo pup.
A day after the Trade Me auction started, bidding to nominate a "family friendly" name for the fluffy Alpine Dingo has already past $1000.
Wellington Zoo Chief Executive Karen Fifield said a keeper travelled to Australia last week to meet and bond with the new puppy before bringing her to New Zealand.
"Being able to spend time with this gorgeous wee girl in advance of bringing her over means that she'll have a familiar face in a new environment," Fifield said.
"She is absolutely lovely - but the one thing she is missing is a name, which is where our fans come in."
Bidders have already nominated Fluffy, Socks, Buttercup, Golden or Ringo, Bingo and lingo as possible monikers for the adorable pup.
Proceeds will go toward caring for her as well as the other animals including the Zoo's other Dingo, Wolfrik.
The auction closes on Friday July 13.
