The Crown has opened its case in the High Court trial of the man accused of murdering Christchurch schoolgirl Marie Davis.
Dean Cameron, a 39-year-old road worker, is charged with the 15-year-old's rape and murder in April last year. He also faces a possession of cannabis charge.
The Crown alleges Cameron raped and murdered Davis before dumping her body in the Waimakariri River, where it was found two weeks later.
Crown Prosecutor Kathy Bell told the High Court Cameron knew Marie Davis was home alone that night. She said blankets which were found with her body in the Waimakariri River were from the teen's house and from a friend of the accused's home.
Bell said DNA evidence also links Cameron to the crime.
A jury of six men and six women has been selected.
The Crown is expected to call around 70 witnesses and the trial has been set down for four weeks.
