Crane needed to clear crash scene

A 25 tonne crane was needed to clear the scene of a fatal crash on State Highway 33.

A car lost control on a bend as it was heading south towards Rotorua and smashed into another car towing a boat.

All four people inside were taken to hospital with moderate injuries.

The other driver died at the scene.

Police say alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

And one person is dead after a car fire in Canterbury overnight.
