Police are looking for an Australian tourist who has been reported missing by his travelling companion in Lyttelton.

45-year-old Michael Craig was last seen leaving the Lyttelton Hotel at about 2am on Friday.

Craig is described as an olive skinned Caucasian, 175cm in height, of stocky build, with "salt and pepper" coloured hair in a crew-cut.

He was wearing a two-tone long-sleeved sweat shirt, coloured navy blue and light brown, together with grey track pants.

Police say they are concerned for his safety.
