The investigative journalist who helped clear Arthur Allan Thomas' name says the Crewe murders cold case does not need to be reopened.

Thomas was convicted twice then pardoned for the murder of Jeanette and Harvey Crewe at their Pukekawa farmhouse in 1970.

The Minister of Justice has been asked to reopen the case after a plea from the ex-wife of Thomas, Vivien Harrison, who wants her name cleared.

Harrison believes she knows the name of the woman who fed the Crewe's baby daughter, Rochelle, after the killings and says she knows who the killer was.

"According to the police investigation I was the woman who fed Rochelle Crewe and this has never been rectified to this day," she says.

But journalist Pat Booth says the case does not need to be reopened because a Royal Commission of Inquiry cleared Thomas' name.

"Once you made Arthur innocent, it very clearly made Vivien innocent as well," says Booth.

Booth remains convinced Jeanette Crewe committed suicide a few days after shooting her husband.

Justice Minister Simon Power is considering Harrison's plea and says he will seek advice on how to proceed.
