Searchers looking for a Chinese student missing at Goat Island near Leigh north of Auckland have found some of her clothes.

Yue Gui, also known as Alice, was last seen at 11pm on Saturday at the Auckland University Marine Reserve Faculty in Leigh.

A beanie and shoes have been found on rocks near the marine reserve.

It is thought Yue Gui, 30, has been swept into the water while checking water temperatures.

Police said on Monday that she usually checked water temperatures on a Sunday morning.

They said weather and tidal conditions during the time she went missing were adverse and they had grave fears she may have fallen into the water.

A helicopter was involved in the search for her on Monday and the Wellington based dive squad was called in the next day.
