Claims older children ignored in Budget

The Government is being criticised for ignoring the plight of older children, in its new funding package for children in state care.

The 43.7 million dollar plan includes money for extra health and education assessments, and mental health services.

But Dingwall Trust director Tracie Shipton says it doesn't address the problem of what happens to children when they are discharged from care at the age of 17.

She said outside of Auckland there is nothing available to help them, so they just end up becoming part of another system.
