Christchurch City Council has admitted a botch-up in its election advertising which rules out thousands of immigrants from casting votes in the local body election.
A pamphlet suggests only New Zealand citizens are eligible to vote, incorrectly excluding permanent residents.
Canterbury District Health Board candidate George Abraham says the error has confused potential voters, and he wants action.
"This can't be a simple mistake. So I want the election commission to have an immediate inquiry and withdraw all materials," Mr Abraham told ONE News.
The electoral officer has expressed regret at the mistake and has withdrawn the pamphlet.
