An Auckland pharmacist has been suspended for a year after dispensing a drug used to make P.

Ian May filled nearly 800 prescriptions of the pseudoephedrine-based drug Sudomyl over five months in 2007.

He was found guilty of professional misconduct in December last year by the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal.

Over 46,000 tablets were dispensed despite May being aware of the potential risk to public health and safety.

The tribunal has fined him $5000 and ordered him to pay 30% of the inquiry's cost of over $25,000.
