A christchurch butchery has been judged to provide the best bacon in the country, at the 100% New Zealand Bacon Competition.

Peter Timbs meats won the the overall prize, and was also first in the best streaky bacon category.

Judging was based on taste, smell, and the absence of shrink when the bacon hit the pan.

The only gold medal winner available in supermarkets around the country was Goodman Fielder's Kiwi Heritage triple smoked middle bacon which took out the middle bacon category.
