The lawyer for one of the men accused of being involved in an alleged assault on Kawhia's sole police officer says he has had charges against him dropped.
Jack Maikuku, 49, had been charged with aggravated assault and assault with intent to injure over the attack on Constable Perry Griffin last month.
Griffen was allegedly beaten and stripped of his pepper spray, taser and pistol, by a group of people as he tried to arrest a 19-year-old man wanted on warrant on January 4.
Jack Maikuku and his son Jackie were arrested and charged over the incident.
Jack Maikuku's lawyer, Roger Laybourn says after viewing footage of the attack, police said that there was no basis to carry on with the charges against his client.
