Vodafone has joined calls for legislation to ban text messaging and talking on hand-held mobiles while driving.
This comes after a drunk teenager crashed his ute into a vehicle while texting, killing the elderly occupants who were driving home from their 49th wedding anniversary in September.
Though cell phone distraction has been blamed for a number of road crashes, official statistics show that smoking, tuning a radio and reaching for the glove box cause more crashes than cellphones.
A major Road Safety Trust advertising campaign will be launched next month targeting driver distraction.
