There has been a significant rise in the number of thefts from cars, with a huge number occurring while a car is parked outside the owner's house.
An Automobile Association survey of over 4,000 drivers found one is six people have had items stolen from their cars.
A third of those occurred while the car was parked on the driver's street, 28% happened in a public car park and, perhaps surprisingly, 23% took place while the car was parked on private property in the driver's garage, carport or driveway.
The AA is urging people not to leave possessions in plain sight in their car and consider installing extra car security such as an alarm or immobiliser.
