Cantabrians have taken to auction site Trade Me in an attempt to locate treasured family pets missing since Saturday's earthquake.
At a glance today, there were at least 40 advertisements for lost and found cats alone.
Some of the animals were registered missing just hours after the 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck early on Saturday morning.
Descriptions like "Help bring Icepick home", and "Our white Samoyed girl is lost" show the concern of some owners, with others leaving heart-felt messages calling for sightings of their missing pets.
One entry read: "She is only six months old, still just a baby and I am so worried about her. She is a very much loved part of the family and we want her back safe and sound."
Another said: "He is a very lovely boy and we are worried sick about him."
But titles like "Dog, reunited with family now" and "Lost black and white border collie found - thank you!" indicate there are some great reunion stories, too.
The SPCA has also activated its Track-a-Pet service with 130 pets registered as missing.
Canterbury pet owners are encouraged to lodge their pets' details on the SPCA site to help ease pressure on the animal welfare officers who have been swamped with reports of missing pets.
Information on the Pet Emergency Earthquake Fund is also listed online.
