A burnt body found in a South Auckland suburb has been identified as male.

The body was discovered lying in grass at McRobbie Road in Kingseat at around 6.30am today.

Following a post-mortem examination police confirmed the body was that of a male, aged between 15 and 30-years-old.

The man weighed between 75kg and 90kgs, and was around 5ft 10 and 6ft 4 in height.

Dental x-rays show the man had no fillings. His ethnicity has not yet been established.

The burnt body of the unidentified man was discovered this morning after the Fire Service was called to a small scrub fire.
