What is being described as a "mammoth" task is complete, and a new Guinness World Record has been set in Dargaville.

The local Girl Guides have linked together nearly 170,000 bras to raise awareness for breast cancer. with the help of 100 supporters.

Spokeswoman Robyn Martinovic says it is satisfying to see it complete.

"We got to about 110,000 and ran out of daylight," Martinovich said yesterday.

"We're back at the park today and our work is a lot quicker because we now know what we are doing."

The best of the bras will be distributed among women in Pacific Island and African countries.
