A nine-year-old boy from Amberley, north of Christchurch, was flown to Christchurch Public hospital this evening after being thrown from his motocross bike.

The boy was thrown over a wire fence and sustained a serious laceration to his lower leg.

The boy was treated by St John Ambulance at the scene for his injuries, and was then flown by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to the Christchurch Public hospital.

He is said to be in a stable condition.
