One person is dead and another injured after two separate fires
this morning.
The Fire Service was called to a house fire on Domain Rd in Oxford,
54km northwest of Christchurch, about 4am.
Fire Service spokesman Brent Dunn said the house was found "well
ablaze" by firefighters with three fire trucks.
He said there were reports someone was inside.
Once the fire was extinguished, a search was carried out and one
person was found dead.
Dunn said fire safety officers were investigating and police were
at the scene.
In the North Island, firefighters responded to a house fire on
Amaru Rd in One Tree Hill at 4am.
Spokesman Steve Smith said the fire was not visible on arrival, but
one person was found with superficial burns.
The fire was "not very bad at all," Smith said.
"There was nothing showing when they got there."
The injured person was taken to Auckland Hospital.
