Internet blogger Cameron Slater is being investigated for another deliberate breach of a suppression order, police say.

Slater is already on bail having entered no plea to five charges of breaching court suppression orders, identifying two prominent New Zealanders accused in separate sex offence cases.

Nelson Bays police area commander Detective Inspector John Winter today said Slater's website was being investigated after he posted a coded message naming a person whose name had been suppressed by the courts.

Winter said such action in defiance of a court order was irresponsible and could lead to the identification of the victim the order was intended to protect.

Slater said the public was behind his campaign against suppression laws, which he believed were not working the way they were intended.

He said he might continue to name high profile defendants, although his website was not accessible on Monday evening.
