Blaze at Kawakawa Bay brought under control

A fire at Kawakawa Bay, east of Auckland, has been 90% extinguished.

At its height, the fire covered two acres near Tawhitokino Beach.

Fire crews initially had difficulty accessing the blaze and were only able to access the bay via a coastguard vessel.

Firefighters have now left the area, while the Rural Fire Service will keep an eye on hot spots overnight.
