Blaze guts Christchurch red zone house

Emergency services are working to determine the cause of a fire which ripped through an abandoned Christchurch house this morning.

They were called to a house inside the red zone on Avonside Drive just before 7am.

Fire Service spokesman Tim Reynolds said he did not know if the blaze would be treated as suspicious.

He said fire safety officers are at the scene and they will have to wait for the outcome of their investigation.

Reynolds says when they arrived at the scene, the fire was well involved.
