Blaze at Dunedin hotel under control

Firefighters are trying to locate guests at a hotel which was the scene of a large fire his evening.

The fire at the Kingsgate Hotel in central Dunedin broke out around 8.30pm tonight.

ONE News reporter Max Bania said the blaze has almost been put out.

Police have cordoned off Smith St, and part of Moray Place.

A Fire Service spokesperson said there are a number of people unaccounted for, but that is because it is taking a while to pinpoint where everyone was at the time of the fire.

Eight fire appliances were involved in battling the blaze.
