Singer-songwriter Pauly Fuemana has been farewelled at two separate services in Auckland on Thursday night and Friday morning.

A gathering on Thursday night in Otara celebrated his music and on Friday more than 200 mourners filled the Pacific Island Presbyterian church to farewell the South Auckland music legend.

The 40-year-old former frontman for the Otara Millionaires' Club and father of eight died at the weekend following a short illness.

OMC shot to fame in 1995 with their hit song How Bizarre. Fuemana was described as the first Polynesian to take New Zealand music to the world.

His sister, Christina, described the impact this had on Fuemana.

"Overnight our brother became a sensation. He had the biggest hit ever to be released in New Zealand by the age of 25", she says.
