They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but for one beauty school, a doodle by the Prime Minister has a much higher value.

John Key's vision of a new national flag, a silver fern, which he drew on Breakfast last week has sold at auction on Trade me for $10,150.

After more than 125,000 views and 180 bids, the Elite International School of Beauty and Spa Therapies in Auckland won the auction on Tuesday night.

School spokesman Simon Harding says they just wanted to support a good cause. He says the students at the school often donate money to different charities and thought this was a really good idea.

The money goes to the Cure Kids Charity - while the gets both the doodle, and morning tea with John Key.
