An elderly man left bloody, bruised and unconscious after he was attacked in his retirement home, is out of hospital and recovering with his family.
Louis Watts, 85, was in good spirits as he prepared to go home from Middlemore Hospital.
He was looking forward to getting back to normal said police as they prepared another public campaign to track down his attacker.
Detective Senior Sergeant Karen Malthus said it was hoped a reconstruction of the crime on the police television show Ten 7 on Wednesday would jog memories and help find the person who bashed Watts and left him lying unconscious in his unit in Wiri, south Auckland a week ago.
A suspicious man was seen jogging out the village's rear gates about 7pm before stopping to talk to another person on the corner of Inverill and Islay Streets.
Malthus said the man was in his mid to late 20s with dark trousers and a dark top.
She said he fitted the description of the man who bashed Watts and police were keen to find him.
