The family of the man killed in a bar fight in Bali at the weekend say New Zealand authorities have badly let them down.
Twenty-two year old Sean Headifen died after he was attacked during a fight at the Bounty Disco Bar in Kuta in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Family spokeswoman Collette Drew says the family's been told it needs $8,000 to fly Sean's body home.
She says they haven't got that kind of money, and they don't know where to turn.
Drew says they just want to see Sean's body so they can have some closure.
Headifen had been holidaying with his girlfriend and had no travel insurance.
When the couple tried to get medical help, they found they could not, as they did not have enough cash on them to pay for an ambulance.
Headifen grew up in Levin and had served with the New Zealand peacekeeping force in East Timor.
A Foreign Affairs Ministry spokeswoman says embassy staff in Jakarta had been providing advice and support to the family.
However Drew says they only contact they've had with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is a call asking them to pay the money to bring Sean's body home.
A Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman says it's up to the next of kin to pay for any costs associated with the death of a loved one overseas.
