A former AUT staff member has admitted taking more than half a million dollars from the university.
Jonathan Kirkpatrick, who was head of the business innovation centre, pleaded guilty to seven fraud related charges when he appeared in the Auckland District Court this morning.
Kirkpatrick is charged with $666,000 worth of fraud through making false invoices in the names of Halsey Consulting, Business Custom Solutions and Eventure.
The offences occurred between 2002 and May this year.
The 53-year-old resigned as Chief Executive of AUT's Business Innovation Centre last month.
He was former Dean of Dunedin's Cathedral and former lover of ex-MP Tim Barnett.
He has taken full responsibility for his actions and said earlier this month he intended to plead guilty to the charges.
"I'm intrigued as much as I'm scared of the whole thing," he said outside a court hearing on August 4.
"I'm not looking forward to it."
A supporter, who was picking up the bailed churchman, said Kirkpatrick often said to her, "Sometimes I don't know who I am anymore."
Kirkpatrick will be sentenced on the 6th of October.
