An Auckland Transport employee under investigation for the possible misuse of public money has been sacked.
The Auckland Council controlled organisation said in a statement its investigation into the allegations found a "serious conflict of interest and performance issues" with the staff member.
An investigation was launched after a review of procurement and contract management procedures within the company.
Documentation going back to 2010 is being reviewed and staff, representatives and stakeholders interviewed.
"At this stage we are uncertain how long our investigations will take but expect it will be concluded in weeks rather than months," said Auckland Transport chief executive David Warburton.
The Serious Fraud Office and Audit New Zealand have been notified.
