The two men vying for the leadership of Auckland's super city say residents are still in the dark over what the restructure will mean for them.
Auckland Mayor John Banks and Manukau Mayor Len Brown fronted up to a committee on Monday to voice their concerns over the super city's development.
"Almost three quarters would like to receive more information on the changes to local government in Auckland," says Banks.
Banks says around 60% of Aucklanders do not feel well informed about the impending change, while 41% think it will negatively impact on their communities.
"Quite a bit more work needs to be done to sell this proposition to the people of Auckland, who are going to be so entangled in this in seven months time," says Banks.
Many of Auckland's civic leaders are also opposed to the region's public transport falling outside the new super council and being administered by a separately run, independently appointed, authority.
However, Brown thinks the community is wary of the change and that they sense the opportunity and scope for the potential for change.
