An astronaut has tweeted a stunning picture of Auckland from space.
Chris Hadfield, who is on the International Space Station, tweeted the picture with the comment: "Auckland. Holding a third of New Zealand's population, it radiates like a beacon between the harbours."
The astronaut, from the Canadian Space Agency, also tweeted a picture of Christchurch's city centre after Earth Hour ended on Saturday.

New Zealand kicked off Earth Hour, which saw many people across the world switch off their lights for 60 minutes, at 8.30pm local time.
Auckland's Sky Tower, Wellington's Beehive, the Empire State Building, the Eiffel Tower and the Kremlin - along with a slew of other landmarks around the world - went dark on Saturday to draw attention to climate change.
