Arrun Soma is a ONE News reporter based in Wellington.
He first got into journalism when he had two days of work experience in TVNZ's Wellington newsroom when he was 16.
Arrun went on to study psychology and media at Victoria University, before going on to the New Zealand Broadcasting School in Christchurch in 2004/2005.
He joined the Wellington newsroom in 2006 as an intern. After stints on the assignment desk, then working as a reporter for the Christchurch bureau, he moved back to Wellington to report from there.
Arrun's most memorable story to date was being part of the team to cover the rescue of then Prime Minister Helen Clark's party from the mountain at Lake Tekapo.
He says he enjoys talking to the people that make the stories, who have great yarns to tell. However, he doesn't enjoy having to speak to the families of people who have just died, no matter what circumstance. He says although they also have stories to tell, it is always very emotionally charged, and never, ever easy.
Career highlights away from journalism, include a student job where he had to dress up as a giant cat mascot to entertain children at the Lollipops Playland play centre.
