A teenager charged with assaulting a man later found dead in Tauranga on Tuesday has made his first court appearance.
The name of both the accused and the deceased man were suppressed when the 19-year-old teenager appeared in Tauranga District Court on Wednesday.
He was charged with assaulting the man whose body was found in his Watling St home in the Tauranga suburb of Gate Pa on Tuesday.
Police have said further charges would depend on the outcome of a post mortem in Auckland on Wednesday.
Police had planned to release the name of the middle-aged victim once relatives had been told of his death but that will not happen yet following the court decision.
