A man has been arrested and charged with assault after a woman's body was found in a Bay of Plenty house.
Police were called to a property at Kaingaroa, 50km southeast of Rotorua, about 10.15pm on Friday and found a 38-year-old woman in the bedroom.
Ambulance staff arrived, but they were unable to resuscitate the woman.
The house in Groome St was cordoned off and police and an Auckland forensic team is carrying out a scene examination.
A port-mortem examination will be carried out in Auckland but results are not expected before Sudany tomorrow at the earliest.
The arrested man, a 33-year-old from Kaingaroa, is due to appear in Rotorua District Court.
Police have not released any more details about the case, but
say they wanted to hear from anyone who was in the Groome St area
at about 10pm on Friday.
