Waikato police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a jogger was seriously assaulted in Ngaruawahia early Tuesday night.
Sergeant Mark Toomey of the Ngaruawahia Police said a man house sitting for a friend went for a run at around 6.15pm and was attacked by two men along Havelock Rd.
The 41-year-old man was punched in the head and kicked in the stomach and groin. He suffered major bruising and swelling and required hospitalisation.
Both defenders are described as male Maoris aged between 15 and 18. Police said they may have visible marks or injuries due to the flight the victim put up.
The first offender is described as being about 5'6" to 5'8" in height, of medium build wearing a dark coloured hooded sweatshirt and will possibly have bruising and swelling to the face due to being punched by the victim.
The second attacker is described being 5'5" to 5'5" in height, of slim build and also wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt who will possibly have bruising, scratches or redness to the neck, throat area due to being held in a choke hold by the victim.
Toomey said after the attack the two offenders walked off, heading towards the fish and chip shop on Whatawhata Ave.
