Armed police arrested a man after they were called to a family violence incident in the eastern Bay of Plenty town of Matata.
Whakatane and Eastern Bay police, along with the Tauranga armed offenders squad, were called to a home in the town, 23km northwest of Whakatane, after calls about an incident reportedly involving a knife and a firearm.
Sergeant Floyd Pratt, of Whakatane, said a 50-year-old Matata man was arrested and would face charges including assault, possession of an offensive weapon and threatening to kill.
"No firearms or weapons were located and enquiries are still being conducted," Pratt said.
