Another move has been made in Gisborne to protect Moko the dolphin.

A substantial reward is now on offer for information which leads to the prosecution of anyone hurting the bottle-nose dolphin.

It's a $5,0000 reward, put up by the Enterprise Motor Group.

It follows an attack on the dolphin about 10 days ago, when Moko was repeatedly punched by a group of youths at Waikanae Beach.

The Moko Minders are swinging into action on Monday.

They are a group who will monitor the dolphin and protect him every day for a period of five weeks.

They will also advise the public on how to interact with him in the water.
