Green MP Sue Kedgley has vowed to keep up the fight for animal welfare, despite her bill banning cruel farming practices failing to pass through parliament last night.

The bill was voted down 62 votes to 57.

Kedgley said government MPs voted for vested interests over animals, and now they have to live with their consciences.

She is now relying on a public backlash to bring the bill back into the spotlight.

The government said it is waiting for advice from the National Animal Welfare Advisory Committee before making any further decisions.
