Police believe alcohol and speed were both factors in a fatal car crash in Northland overnight.
One person was killed, and six others injured, after their car rolled on Pouto Road in Dargaville at around 1.35am.
Police said the Subaru sedan lost control on an 'S' bend and landed on its roof in a deep ditch at the side of the road.
The people in the car were thrown out onto the road, with a 22-year-old man from Dargaville dying at the scene.
Three male passengers were airlifted to Northland Base Hospital with serious injuries. Another three were taken to Dargaville with moderate injuries.
Police said the weather was fine and road conditions were dry at the time of the crash. No other vehicles were involved.
