Two Chinese men could be facing a maximum of life imprisonment after a $4 million crystal methamphetamine seizure.
The men were arrested at Auckland Airport when they arrived on a flight from Hong Kong and have appeared in Manukau District Court this week on charges of importation of a Class A drug.
Both men entered no plea and have been remanded in custody. If convicted, they face a maximum penalty of life in prison.
Customs drug investigations manager Mark Day says this seizure is particularly significant. He says it's a great result and shows the value of constant vigilance at the border.
Day says most of the recent seizures were of precursors, but this time it was the finished drug product - ready for sale or use.
